Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
