The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and given more than 27 years in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This encompassed attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the former leader's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.
