Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
